U.S. TRAVEL ASSOCIATION IPW

THE PURPOSE Increase international visitation by connecting Greater Portland with the travel trade professionals responsible for shaping and selling travel experiences to global audiences. OUR STRATEGY Engage directly with qualified international buyers, tour operators, and receptive operators to showcase Greater Portland’s unique experiences and year-round appeal. Through targeted appointments and collaborative efforts with the Maine Office of Tourism, we position the destination for inclusion in packaged itineraries, group tours, cruise extensions, and incentive travel programs , creating opportunities for long-term international visitation growth.

OVERVIEW As part of the Maine Office of Tourism delegation, Visit Portland attended IPW 2026 in Fort Lauderdale (May 16–22) alongside regional partners. As the leading inbound U.S. travel trade show, IPW connects destinations with global buyers. During the event, Visit Portland completed 147 pre-scheduled meetings with international buyers from 14 countries. Conversations focused on increasing destination awareness and securing future inclusion for Greater Portland in packaged itineraries, group tours, cruise extensions, and incentive travel programs. KEY OUTCOMES • 147 international trade appointments across 14 countries • Strengthened relationships with global tour operators and receptive partners • Increased awareness of Greater Portland as a year-round destination • Expanded opportunities for inclusion in international itineraries and group programs • Supported statewide marketing through Maine Office of Tourism booth • Reinforced Maine’s appeal for outdoor recreation, culinary tourism, arts, and culture
