PORTSHARE PROMISE

THE PURPOSE Enhance the experience of both residents and visitors by managing cruise tourism in a way that maximizes community and economic benefits while addressing the impacts of increased visitation. The PortShare Promise initiative helps ensure that cruise tourism contributes positively to Greater Portland’s long-term vitality and quality of life. OUR STRATEGY Collaborate with community partners to implement practical solutions that improve mobility, visitor dispersal, and community feedback. Through initiatives such as the City Loop Shuttle and the See Click Fix feedback program, we gather data, address concerns, and create a more balanced and sustainable approach to cruise tourism that benefits residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

OVERVIEW Portland, Maine, is one of the most popular stops in the busy Canada New England cruise itinerary that runs between the home ports of Montréal and Québec and Boston and New York. Portland attracts cruisers who are anxious to experience Maine’s history, lighthouses, scenery, great food, and wonderful shopping. With more than 125 ships visiting the port during our peak fall 2025 season, Cruise Portland, Cruise Maine, and the City of Portland have developed the PortShare Promise program for the fall visitor season to help us better understand and address the impacts of cruise tourism on our community. Our most significant initiative is the City Loop Shuttle. The shuttle allows cruise passengers, land visitors, and community members to experience all areas of our fantastic city. We’re also keen to provide the community and visitors with an easy way to submit comments, concerns, and compliments through the City of Portland’s See Click Fix program. These comments will provide invaluable information to help the city address immediate concerns as well as to plan for future improvements to our PortShare Promise initiative.
