LOGO CONCEPT Inspired by Portland’s connection to sea and land, this concept brings the destination’s elements together in one harmonious mark. Flowing script, subtle coastal symbols, and a balanced composition create a logo that feels both expressive and intentional. Nautical cues and layered visual details work together to reflect the rhythm, character, and sense of place that define Portland.

We chose “City OF the Sea” to reflect a deeper truth about Portland’s identity. This is not a city that sits passively by the water—it is a community built from it. The working waterfront has shaped Portland since its founding, and the sea continues to drive its culture and economy today. From the fishermen and lobstermen who bring in the day’s catch to the restaurants that serve it fresh, the ocean is woven into everyday life. Portland isn’t just near the sea—it belongs to it.

The seagulls help define the city’s sensory experience anchoring its distinct soundscape.

The hook in the letter “P” offers a subtle nod to Portland’s historic working waterfront.

The script font was chosen to capture Portland’s creative, coastal spirit. Its handwritten style reflects the city’s thriving arts scene and small-business charm, while also drawing inspiration from the classic painted signage found throughout local shops and the working waterfront. The flowing, organic letterforms evoke a sense of movement— reminiscent of ocean waves and seabirds—while the loops of the “o” and the “r” subtly mirror the curves of rope long used along the docks. Together, these elements create a warm, inviting identity that feels both artistic and authentically local.
