Maine and sports—it's a natural fit. With its diversity of terrain and changing climate, Maine is fortunate to have an array of distinct, unique four-season sports activities. From the mountains to the sea, Maine sports venues have played host to youth, amateur, national, international, and professional-level sports; Maine has the space to hold large competitions and the services to ensure they run smoothly. Play in Maine Maine's mountain trails are getting more mileage with a host of biking and skiing events. In April, come watch athletes—some who are preparing for the 2022 Winter Olympics—compete side by side in the dual race Visit Maine World Pro Ski Tour. Cyclists will enjoy a weekend of guided rides, skills clinics, and exhibition events at the 3rd Annual Mountain Bike Festival, held in June. Then in July, all levels can compete in the Carrabessett Back- country Challenge, a mountain bike endurance event covering a great mix of terrains. Touted by industry publications from around the globe as a top Bucket List Race, the Lobsterman Triathlon returns to the shores of Winslow Park, South Freeport, in September. Athletes from around the country will swim, bike, and run along Maine’s shores to compete, and celebrate with a quintessential lobsterbake following their finish line high fives. This June, and for the next five years, the Korn Ferry Tour, the pathway to the PGA Tour, will feature up and coming golfers in the Live + Work in Maine Open at Falmouth Country Club. Professional sport teams offer groups a great option while here for work or play. 2020 will be the Maine Mariners' 3rd ECHL season at the Cross Insurance Arena, where the Maine Mammoths arena football team also plays. The Maine Red Claws were acquired by the Boston Celtics in October, and will continue to bring G-League excitement to the Portland Expo, the oldest continually active arena in the country.
