Pride Parade celebrates Greater Portland’s diverse and inclusive population.

LIFE AS WE KNOW IT Greater Portland tops other urban areas around the world with excellence in food, quality of life, and even beer. Who knew? (We did.)

You may think Maine is just a vacation spot, but it’s not. Greater Portland has been attracting young entrepreneurs who find the progressive region large enough to be interesting, yet small enough to develop a supportive community. Relaxed enough that you can follow your interests, while also developing your career. On liveandworkinmaine.com you’ll meet real people who fell in love with Maine, moved here, and have great jobs. They love the quirky mix of outdoor adventure and city culture. They value the live/ work balance they’ve achieved here. Take the time to listen to their stories and perhaps you’ll discover that a move to Maine makes sense to you too. For those considering a lifestyle change, another invaluable source of information is CreativePortland, where you can connect with other energetic and creative people who are planting roots in our region. If you’re just visiting, pages 58-59 may still be beneficial during your stay. PHOTOS, FROM TOP: COREY TEMPLETON; COURTESY LIVE AND WORK IN MAINE

IT’S A LIVING KATHLEEN PARKER, IT RECRUITER PRO SEARCH, INC. Originally from California by way of St. Louis, I was looking for the kind of life I had growing up, close to the beach with a certain kind of energy you can’t find in the Midwest. When I first visited Portland I loved the energy, I loved everything about it, and said, ‘I’m going to move here!’ I live very close to Willard Beach in South Portland. Every evening after work the dog and I go for a jaunt on the beach and to Spring Point lighthouse. I’d say the most important thing is to visit Greater Portland…go to the beach, walk around downtown Portland, experience fresh lobster right on the water—it’ll hook you! No one here is in a rush. They put in their work—and work hard—but they also enjoy their off-time. Employers respect the work/life balance.
