Our neighbors to the south love to come to Portland for, among other things, Happy Hour. At many of Portland’s restaurants, the late afternoon to early evening time slot is an opportunity to try out a new spot with daily specials and bargain beverages; some places even put out a complimentary spread for you to enjoy with your cheap drinks. At Portland’s micro- breweries, there’s something new brewing every season so we recommend repeat visits.

Close enough for a weekend getaway from Boston and New York, and small enough to be intimate, Portland is perfect for sharing with your best friend or romantic spark. Take a long walk on the beach, savor an elegant meal, enjoy live music at a club, and stroll leisurely back to an in-town hotel or B&B. Consider Portland for a honeymoon and let us celebrate with you. Gay marriage is legal in Maine and LGBTQ couples are warmly welcomed.

The most cultured cityphile will be amazed at all that’s going on in Portland and the ease and value compared with larger downtowns. Portland has its own symphony orchestra, professional theatre and dance troupes, even a repertory opera company. Portland Museum of Art has significant holdings of Maine, American, and European works, and the Arts District is filled with galleries that open in a festive celebration the first Friday of each month.

You can really get away from it all in Maine. While there’s plenty to do in the Greater Portland region, you may need to just chill on a beach for a week, or hike some lesser visited paths and rejuvenate yourself surrounded by landscapes and seascapes of incredible beauty. Pamper yourself at a day spa or stay at a full-service resort with a spa. Sit by a cozy fire in winter with a friend. Come see why we say: “Maine, TheWay Life Should Be.”
