TRAVEL WRITER BRIAN OLIVER WHAT DID THE PROJECT ENTAIL? Visit Portland and the Maine Office of Tourism supported the visit of cultural storyteller Brian Oliver to evolve Maine’s identity as an inclusive, culturally rich destination. Drawing on his background in media, fashion, and lifestyle branding, Brian created strategic content—including digital campaigns, editorial photography, and immersive travel narratives— emphasizing emotional clarity, cultural resonance, and visual impact. The strategy focused on representation, authenticity, and connection, highlighting often untold Black and cultural histories across the state. HOW DID IT MAKE AN IMPACT? Brian’s storytelling added an important chapter to the ongoing work of highlighting the cultural richness and evolving identity of Maine. His perspective helped broaden the narrative beyond scenic beauty, reflecting a deeper sense of belonging and cultural relevance. By amplifying voices and stories that have long been part of Maine’s fabric, this project contributed to a growing effort to make the Maine experience more inclusive and relatable for a diverse range of travelers.
